Frequently Asked Questions
- What is VidRhythm?
- VidRhythm is a fun video-making app for iOS by Harmonix Music Systems, the creators of Rock Band and Dance Central. Choose a song and style, record video samples, make video music, and share your creations with your friends!
- What do I need to play VidRhythm?
- VidRhythm requires iOS 4.2 or later and is compatible with the following devices: iPhone 4, iPhone 3GS, iPad 2, and iPod touch (4th generation).
- How do I play?
- Here's how:
- First, pick a song. If you’re new to VidRhythm, you might want to try a “Beats” song; those tend to have the least amount of singing!
- Next, pick a style. If you’re not sure which style you want yet, that’s OK – you can always change the style later if you don’t like it.
- Now it’s time to record. Follow the prompts and tap the REC. button to record a one second sample. Tap the sample box to preview your sampled video. If a sample requires you to sing a particular note, tap Chirpy the Guide Note to help you get it right.
- After you’ve recorded all six samples, tap the MAKE VIDEO MUSIC! button to combine your recorded samples into a song!
- I made a video, but it doesn't sound very good. What now?
- If you play your video and you don’t like it, don’t worry! You can always go back to the Record screen and re-record any of the samples that didn’t sound right.
- How do I make my singing sound better?
- Singing is hard, right? Here are some tips:
- Make sure you’re using Chirpy the Guide Note to get the right pitch!
- Try starting to sing before you tap REC. That will give you a change to stabilize your pitch, so you don’t get that gross warbly sound at the beginning of your samples.
- Some songs have more than one note for you to sing. These are especially tricky, so it’ll take some practice to get all the harmonies locked in. Keep at it!
- Okay, I guess my video is pretty cool now. But isn’t there a convenient way to share it with my friends via our favorite social networks?
- Actually, there is! Just tap the Save & Share button after watching your video and you can upload it to YouTube and Facebook – or just save it to the Camera Roll in the Photos app.
- The VidRhythm app is not enough for me. What else you got?
- You’re in luck! VidRhythm content is also available on Twitter and Facebook. You can also see some of our favorite videos on the official YouTube channel.
- Can I make my own songs?
- You can! For those users that have a working familiarity with MIDI, we’ve made it possible for you to create your own custom songs and videos for VidRhythm. Please proceed to this page for all the instructions and details you’ll need to get rolling.
- Will VidRhythm be available on non-iOS devices someday?
- We’d love to bring VidRhythm to other mobile devices out there! Our development team is investigating available possibilities, but we don’t have anything to announce at the moment. Stay tuned to Twitter.com/VidRhythm or Facebook.com/VidRhythm for further news on VidRhythm coming to other devices.
